London, 06-07/05/2016. The morning after the London Mayoral Election, press began to congregate on the ninth floor of City Hall to report on the results and the official announcement of the new Mayor of London. At 15:21, the press team of City Hall announced the results by constituency. At just gone 17:30, the press videographers and photographers were escorted downstairs to the Chamber (second floor) to wait for the official final announcement. The press waited, however, almost five hours for this to happen. At 22:11, the Greater London Returning Officer, Jeff Jacobs, approached the stage and presented the new Greater London Assembly members. And, finally, at 12:18 on the 7th of May (just under nine hours after the first City Hall press announcement), Mr Jacobs officially announced the new Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan for the Labour Party. An official statement (that you can find at https://londonelects.org.uk/news-centre/news-listing/election-count-delay-explained and in the PDF attached to this story) was released on the 7th of May to explain the delay - which was previously described as being due to "minor discrepancies in Mayoral figures". <br />
