Rome, 12/03/2020. Documenting Rome under the Italian Government lockdown for the Outbreak of the Coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2 - COVID-19) in Italy. On the evening of the 11 March 2020, the Italian Prime Minister, Giuseppe Conte, signed the March 11th Decree Law "Step 4 Consolidation of 1 single Protection Zone for the entire national territory" (1.). The further urgent measures were taken "in order to counter and contain the spread of the COVID-19 virus" on the same day when the WHO (World Health Organization, OMS in Italian) declared the coronavirus COVID-19 as a pandemic (2.).<br />
ISTAT (Italian Institute of Statistics) estimates that in Italy there are 50,724 homeless people. In Rome, around 20,000 people in fragile condition have asked for support. Moreover, there are 40,000 people who live in a state of housing emergency in Rome's municipality.<br />
March 11th Decree Law (1.): «[…] Retail commercial activities are suspended, with the exception of the food and basic necessities activities […] Newsagents, tobacconists, pharmacies and parapharmacies remain open. In any case, the interpersonal safety distance of one meter must be guaranteed. The activities of catering services (including bars, pubs, restaurants, ice cream shops, patisseries) are suspended […] Banking, financial and insurance services as well as the agricultural, livestock and agri-food processing sector, including the supply chains that supply goods and services, are guaranteed, […] The President of the Region can arrange the programming of the service provided by local public transport companies […]».<br />
Updates: on the 12.03.20 (6:00PM) in Italy there 14.955 positive cases; 1,439 patients have recovered; 1,266 died.<br />
