London, 17/09/2016. Today, hundreds of people gathered in Hoxton Square to march peacefully through East London to protest against the closure of the iconic Dalston music venue, Passing Clouds. From the organiser press release: <<[…] After Passing Clouds was sold in November 2015 in a secret deal to property developers Landhold Developments, the Passing Clouds community have been fighting to protect our iconic ten-year old music venue from unnecessary development. Two weeks ago Landhold Developments sent private a security firm to break into and evict Passing Clouds without warning or lawful court papers despite being in negotiations over a 15 year lease. Although Landhold Developments are seeking to develop the property, in fact, the property has a community use planning classification and an application to put the building on the Community Asset Register has been submitted and is supported by Hackney Council dignitaries. Therefore it is likely to sit empty, resulting in thousands of pounds in security costs a day for Landhold Developments, unless they come to a sensible arrangement with Passing Clouds. We are now putting together a viable proposal to Landhold Developments to grant us a new lease or sell us the freehold of the property […]>>. The demonstration ended in Gillett Square with music, poetry and speeches by prominent figures from the UK Music Industry.<br />
