London, 19/09/2016. Today, 2500 lifejackets were laid in London’s Parliament Square to symbolize refugees and migrants who are crossings the Mediterranean to reach mainland Europe. The 2500 lifejackets (each lifejacket represents three deaths) come from the beaches of the Greek Island of Chios after they were worn by the people during the dangerous trip from Turkey. The demonstration coincided with the beginning of the United Nation summit on the worldwide Migrant Crisis. <<[…] The United Nations refugee body UNHCR, International Rescue Committee, Migrant Voice, World Vision, and Médecins Sans Frontières collaborated for the display, which they called a "lifejacket graveyard" to illustrate the risks migrants take.
