«The National Roman Museum was born in 1889 as one of the main centers of historical and artistic culture of the united Italy. In addition to welcoming and exhibiting the works of historical collections passed to the State and the numerous antiquities that emerged from the works of adaptation of Rome to its new role as Capital of the Kingdom of Italy, the Museum was intended to increase the historical and artistic heritage of the city and contribute with it in the most effective way to the increase of culture. «Il Museo Nazionale Romano nasce nel 1889 come uno dei principali centri di cultura storica ed artistica dell’Italia unita. Oltre ad accogliere ed esporre le opere di collezioni storiche passate allo Stato e le numerose antichità che emergevano dai lavori di adeguamento di Roma al suo nuovo ruolo di Capitale del Regno d’Italia, il Museo era destinato ad accrescere il patrimonio storico ed artistico della città e contribuire con esso nel modo più efficace all’incremento della cultura.
