Rome, Italy. 26th Mar, 2021. Documenting the return of the "Vigile", the Traffic Officer, member of the Rome Municipal Police Force (1.), directing the traffic from his historic and iconic pedestal in Piazza Venezia (2.), definitely one of the most chaotic and famous landmark of the Eternal City.
The elegant Vigile portrayed in these photos is the veteran traffic officer, Pierluigi Marchionne, whose moves recall a Conductor of an Orchestra, a Dancer, an Actor. In fact, he was chosen to be the Vigile in Piazza Venezia in the 2012 Woody Allen's film "To Rome With Love" (3.). Surely, the Traffic Officer in Piazza Venezia reminds the famous and unforgotten Roman actor, Alberto Sordi, in the 1960 classic Luigi Zampa's film "Il Vigile" (4.).
