Rome, Italy. 17th November, 2021. Today, ER doctors and nurses of SIMEU (Società Italiana di Medicina d'Emergenza e Urgenza - Italian Society of Emergency and Urgency Medicine) held a flash-mob in Piazza Santi Apostoli to highlights the problems of the public ER (Pronto Soccorso) in Italy (The Italian NHS is called SSN) which have been dramatically increasing during the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic SARS-CoV-2 infection COVID-19.<br />
From the SIMEU press release: «[…] It is necessary to act immediately with extraordinary measures. The future of the Emergency / Urgency cannot wait, it needs to be built. At Piazza Santi Apostoli in Rome and in all the operational units of Italy emergency and urgency, professionals raise awareness of decision makers and public opinion in order to work to the reconstruction of an efficient system. [...] The structural and organizational crisis lowers the quality of service to patients, increasing the clinical risk. Pre-pandemic, there were 24 million accesses / year in the ER, an emergency every 90 seconds. The situation today is aggravated by the double path clean / dirty . An unsustainable risk for the community […]» (1.).<br />
