Rome, Italy. 17th Apr, 2021. Today, activists, citizens of San Lorenzo, representatives of movements, actors, musicians, students, workers, artists held a march and a rally (1.) to mark and celebrate the 10th anniversary of the occupation of Nuovo Cinema Palazzo in Rome's San Lorenzo district.
The Nuovo Cinema Palazzo was occupied on the 15th of April 2011, when citizens, movements, workers of the entertainment industry reopened the former "Palazzo Cinema" to prevent the opening of a casino/gambling space. The illegal occupation was intended as a public hub of art, culture, sport and politics, an open place for exchange, discussion, studies, caring and sharing.
The eviction of the Nuovo Cinema Palazzo in Piazza dei Sanniti was completed by the Italian police forces in the early morning of the 25th of November 2020. Since then, numerous events (included in the footnotes) have been organised to demonstrate against the violent reaction of the Police forces and to call for a proper answer by local and national Institutions to give the Cinema's space back to the San Lorenzo Community.
