Rome, Italy. 04 January, 2022. Today, members of the Popolo Viola held a demonstration in Piazza Santi Apostoli (1.) to protest against the candidacy - by the Centre-right parties - of Silvio Berlusconi as the next President of the Italian Republic (2.). From the organisers Facebook event page: «[…] to remind the parliamentarians who will be called by the President of the Chamber of Deputies of the Italian Parliament, Roberto Fico, to cast their vote, that they have a huge responsibility in their hands: to prevent the most divisive, most equivocal, in short, most inappropriate name, from being indicated as the representative of our most important Institution, remembering that the President of the Republic must represent all of us Italian citizens and the Quirinale cannot be confused with the "bunga bunga" […]» (1.).
The Popolo Viola was a political movement which organised numerous demonstration, in Italy and abroad, while Silvio Berlusconi was the Italian Prime Minister, of which the most famous was the "No Berlusconi Day" the 5th December 2009 calling for his resignation (3.).
