Rome, Italy. 02nd June, 2021. On the day which marks the "Festa Della Repubblica" (Italian Republic Day, 1.), Black Lives Matter Roma - supported by Rete G2 Seconde Generazioni and other Citizenship and Human Rights Organizations - held a demonstration in Piazza della Bocca Della Verità (2.) for a correct application of the current Citizenship Law (Article 4 of the Law n.91, 5 February 1992), for citizens' rights, and against discriminatory and racist language. From the organisers Facebook event page: «[…] We are mobilizing to ask for a correct and complete application of the current Citizenship Law - while still waiting for a proper reform of it - which implies that every Municipality of Italy notifies the possibility of acquiring citizenship to all the people born in Italy of foreign parents, without incurring serious defaults / non-fulfillment. We are mobilizing to ensure that the institutions abide by the Constitution and commit themselves to eliminating all obstacles of an economic and social nature that limit the freedom of people, as well as severely limiting access to the fundamental principles, and compromising the full development of human person and effective participation in the political, economic and social life of our country. We are mobilizing because the racist and discriminatory language used by the main Italian media is no longer acceptable. We want the media to be able to re-establish a representation of real society, involving the plurality of individuals who live with it […]».<br />
