London, 19/05/2015. Today, LSE (London School of Economics and Political Studies) presented a public lecture called "The Great Divide" hosted by the author of the homonymous book, Prof. Joseph E. Stiglitz (American economist, Professor at Columbia University, recipient of the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences in 2001 and the John Bates Clark Medal in 1979. He is the former Senior Vice President and Chief Economist of the World Bank, and he is also a former member and chairman of the US President's Council of Economic Advisers. Prof. Stiglitz is well known for his critical view of the management of globalization, free-market economists - whom he calls "free market fundamentalists" - , and some international institutions like the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank. In 2000, Stiglitz founded the Initiative for Policy Dialogue, IPD, a think tank on international development based at Columbia University). Chair of the event was Prof. Sir John Robert Hills CBE (British academic, he is a professor of Social Policy at the London School of Economics and has been director of the ESRC Research Centre for the Analysis of Social Exclusion since 1997.
